EXTRA...EXTRA...READ ALL ABOUT IT!!! BLUE-TAIL TELLS BIG PUBLISHING HOUSES AND LITERARY AGENTS TO GET LOST!!!! The Birth of Seven Hawks Publishing 9/20/05 As of late I have decided to take a different step in the process of getting my books published. Before I had decided to go with a print-on-demand publisher(someone you pay to print your book and every time a copy sells they print it and ship it out) a few problems however turned me away from that venture eventually. The main one was the fact that they wanted to design your cover and you had to pay them extra for a nice one. I didn't like the idea at all, I want full creative solitude on most if not all aspects of my book....so I trashed the print-on-demand idea. Within the past month or so I have been gradually looking into the field of self-publishing. I remember a few years back when I first started writing I had a bad image in my head of self publishing. I pictured too much of an extra work load and little if no success in the writing world. Basically I thought that you couldn't get anywhere without a big publishing house. But now, years later, experience of the real world has taught me that publishing houses as well as literary agents are a complete waste of time. They basically do everything in their power to completely ignore the first time, up and coming authors. They might as well just spit on us and get it over with. Although, I do believe the tables are starting to turn against them. Many of the larger publishing firms are starting to go bankrupt and closing their doors. Why? People think it's mainly because of the digital age we are living in that people have lost an extreme interest in reading....yeah right. Go to any Barnes and Noble or bookstore in general and see all the people looking for books or sitting around reading books. Have you not seen the lines on release night of every new Harry Potter book. Lots of companies try to use the "Digital age" excuse for their downfall, but the fact of the matter is that not enough attention is being paid to new authors, this had caused an extreme surge in self-published writers who choose to forget about large publishing houses and go their own routes, leaving larger houses with no new endevours...oh well, that's their fault and their loss. In this day and age there are more self publishers than there has ever been, and lots of them are successful at it. Which is why I have chose to go this route, granted it is a long, treacherous, and unpredictable path but I am willing to take it full speed ahead. I have already created my publishing company and called it "Seven Hawks Publishing"I have been reading a book called "The Self-Publishing Manual" and it is a Heaven send. It not only got me excited about publishing again but it also got me out of the writer's slump I was in. The book has taught me many things about the writing industry, but the far most important of them all is "Get lost big publishing houses and literary agents" LOL Hopefully soon I will be getting "Catahoula" published. I got many quotes for printing it and I believe I am going with Whitehall Printing based in Florida. Currently I am designing the cover and final editing, I just have to come up with enough money to get it printed, about $3500 That I must say is one drawback of self-publishing, the start up capitol, but I feel confident that I will be able to get the money somewhere and when I do, Catahoula will be up for sale on this very website, finally published....what a memorable day that will be.....sigh Check out the Symbol for Seven Hawks Publishing |
